Active Speaking Training vs. Passive Recognition

Traditional language learning platforms focus heavily on multiple-choice cards and matching exercises. While this is comfortable, it builds passive recognition. In a real conversational context in Spain, there are no bubbles to tap or word banks to select from. You must construct the Spanish response from scratch. This is active recall.

Spanish Unstuck is designed to bridges this exact gap. By presenting situational prompts in English and asking you to recall and speak the corresponding Spain Spanish out loud, we train the active cognitive pathways you need for speaking fluent Spanish in real-world scenarios.

Our Story & Genesis

We built Spanish Unstuck because we got perfect scores on vocab apps but froze completely when trying to order a simple coffee at cafes in Seville or ask for directions in Madrid. We realised we had trained our brains to recognise Spanish words, but not to construct and speak them under pressure.

Our mission is simple: to offer a clean, mobile-first Progressive Web App (PWA) that acts as an active recall gym for the voice, completely stripping away the fluff to build real speaking confidence.

Spaced Repetition & Spoken Recall

Retrieving a phrase from memory right before you forget it is what makes memory permanent—a cognitive phenomenon known as **Desirable Difficulty**. Spanish Unstuck utilises a customised spaced repetition system. Based on your verbal recall rating (Easy, Nearly, Hard, Forgot), phrases are dynamically scheduled to reappear at optimised intervals:

  • 🔴 Forgot: Loops back almost immediately inside the active practice deck.
  • 🟠 Hard: Prioritized to review again in your next immediate sessions.
  • 🟡 Nearly: Reinforced moderately to solidify connections.
  • 🟢 Recalled: Mastered! Pushed far back into your long-term review queue.

Curriculum & CEFR Alignment

Our active library includes 300 conversational phrases mapped strictly to standard CEFR curriculum structures:

  • 🟢 A1 (Survival Essentials — 100 Phrases): Core cafe ordering, navigation, greetings, buying clothes, and asking for help.
  • 🟡 A2 (Everyday Conversations — 100 Phrases): Hobbies, plans, talking about past activities, and standard socializing.
  • 🔵 B1 (Fluent Expressions — 100 Phrases): Subjunctive mood clauses, filler words to sound natural, and describing complex expectations.

Freemium Capping: Free tier accounts can practise the first 40 phrases of the A1 curriculum with standard transition progress updates. The full 300 phrase database can be unlocked permanently for a one-off payment of £7.99 (Founder launch price) with no subscription or recurring billing.
